Introduction

This Foundation program will give you the academic knowledge and practical skills in the fields of Mathematics, Statistics, and Programming that are necessary to pursue Computer Science at the degree level.

Key Features

A stepping stone to undergraduate study

The International Foundation Programme for Computer Science provides students with the skills needed to successfully complete a Computer Science degree. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be offered a place in the BSc Computer Science program, with academic direction provided by Goldsmiths, University of London.

An interactive online learning experience

This program is delivered through Coursera, the world’s largest online learning platform. You will have online tutor support and be able to engage with fellow students from around the world.

Academic Foundation

The program provides a robust introduction to mathematics, statistics, academic skills, and programming, equipping students with the skills and academic confidence for degree-level studies.

In-demand digital skills and knowledge

Familiarise yourself with the widely used coding language Python, learn how to interpret and summarise data, and perform mathematical calculations. Apply your theoretical knowledge of programming, mathematics, and statistics to real-world problems through hands-on exercises.

Flexible study

Fill in the gaps in your knowledge of maths and statistics, on your own terms. Study independently and at your own pace, while working full-time or attending to other commitments.

Join the world-class

Join a global alumni community and enjoy a lifelong connection to the University of London. Graduates are encouraged to keep in touch with one another and can receive a number of benefits including an extensive programme of events and engagement opportunities.

How you study

The International Foundation Programme for Computer Science comprises four compulsory modules, the successful completion of which awards students the International Foundation Certificate. There are two intakes per year, in January and July, with each session lasting 16 weeks, followed by two additional weeks for revision and assessment. Modules can also be studied on an individual basis subject to availability.

Online support

When you register, we will give you access to your Student Portal. You can then access your University of London email account and other key resources:

Are you affected by US-imposed restrictions?

Our International Foundation Programme for Computer Science uses creative interactive approaches delivered through Coursera, the world’s largest online learning platform, to provide immersive learning experiences.

United States export control regulations prevent Coursera from offering services and content to users in certain countries or regions. More information about which countries or regions are affected can be found on Coursera's website.

Coursera must enforce this restriction in order to remain in compliance with US law and, for that reason, we advise that all learners check this information before applying for the program.

Assessment

The International Foundation Programme for Computer Science and its modules are assessed by an unseen written examination. Candidates who pass all four modules are awarded the University of London International Foundation Certificate with a grade of 'Pass', 'Merit', or 'Distinction'.
