Through research, education, and clinical services, The Family Institute at Northwestern University is one of the nation's leading relationship-based behavioral health organizations committed to strengthening and healing children and adolescents, couples, families, and individuals.

Our Mission & Approach

We are deeply committed to strengthening and healing the whole family system by bringing together the right partners to support children, adults, couples, and families across the lifespan. As researchers, educators and therapists, we work with our clients and partner to see change.

“The Family Institute defines family the way you define family.”

We tailor treatment to match the client's unique needs and goals. Behind each clinician at The Family Institute is a collaborative team of over 70 clinicians who engage in continuous learning, consultation, information sharing, and providing effective referrals.

Our Partnership With Northwestern University

Educators since 1965, The Family Institute, in cooperation with Northwestern University’s Graduate School and Office of Research, houses The Center for Applied Psychological and Family Studies. Our long-standing partnership with Northwestern University ranks us among the top relationship-based behavioral health graduate education and research programs in the country.
