Introduction
In Carlow's hybrid Master of Social Work program with a Macro Practice specialization, students learn to lead effectively across populations and systems through the lenses of advocacy, professional ethics, trauma and social justice. Learners graduate with a commitment to service and the knowledge required to be a capable and compassionate professional in unique and complex situations.
The Macro Practice specialization is grounded in human and social well-being, along with advocating for human rights and social and economic justice. Graduates work as nonprofit leaders, community managers and grant writers, among many other influential careers. In the program, students learn best practices within large systems and frameworks for achieving change. Field placement and seminars give learners hands-on experience in addition to the knowledge base gained from expert instructors. Students are encouraged to conduct collaborative research projects with faculty or assist with research projects outside of class. In the final semester, students benefit from LSW exam preparation.
Carlow's degree offers an advanced standing track for those who already have a BSW, allowing some to complete the degree in as few as 18 months. Faculty interact with each student one-on-one to tailor field placement experiences and research to their career goals. Students graduate prepared to sit for licensure.
