Master's Entry Requirements

All of our MSc programmes require a good Bachelor's degree. This usually means a UK 2.1 or above or the equivalent from an overseas institution. Some MSc programmes require previous study in particular subjects - you can find out more on the individual course pages.

If you are currently studying, you should provide:

  • An interim transcript showing your marks achieved to date
  • A list of modules that you are undertaking in your final year of study (if these are not listed on your transcript)
  • The grading system used by your university

English requirements

It is essential that all students have an excellent command of English as we welcome students from around 100 different nations to study with us here at Bayes. In order to participate fully in the collaborative learning process, all students who have not previously studied at degree level in a majority English-speaking country as defined by the Home Office* must sit one of the approved English language proficiency tests listed below.

*see Home Office Regulations

IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic can be taken in-person or online. We require an overall score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in Writing and no less than 6.0 in any other section. Please note: for MSc Marketing Strategy & Innovation, an overall score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all sections is required. We do not accept IELTS General nor IELTS Indicators.

Please note that we do not require IELTS for UKVI. We accept IELTS Academic from all test centres, not only those identified by UKVI on the SELT list. We also accept IELTS One Skill Retake.

PTE Academic

We accept only the in-person PTE Academic. We require an overall score of 69 with a minimum of 62 in Writing and no less than 60 in any other section. We do not accept PTE Academic Online nor PTE General.

TOEFL iBT

TOEFL iBT can be taken in-person or online. We require an overall score of 100 with a minimum of 25 in Writing and no less than 23 in any other section. Scores must be achieved within a single test, not MyBest scores, and made available to us using Institution Code 0870. We do not accept TOEFL Essentials nor TOEFL ITP Plus for China.

Please upload or email us a copy of your test report form so we can verify your results online. For TOEFL iBT, you will also need to make your scores available to us using Institution Code 0870.

If you are not a native English speaker but have been studying in the UK for the last three years, it is unlikely you will need to take a test. Please submit a copy of your most recent English language test/qualification along with your application and a decision will be made by the Admissions Panel.

In order to meet the academic entry requirements of our MSc programme, you will be required to sit one of the English language tests listed above if you have studied in the UK at degree level (RQF 6 or higher) for less than 3 years.

International students, including students from the European Economic Area and Switzerland, who do not hold settled or pre-settled status or another valid immigration permission allowing study in the UK, will need a Student visa to study in the UK.

Please note that the final date for receiving MSc applications from overseas students requiring a Student visa is mid-July.

This is to ensure you have enough time to apply for and receive your visa before the start of the course on campus in London. After this date, we recommend you contact the relevant Admissions Officer for further guidance.

Any international students requiring a Student visa who already hold a conditional offer should provide all their documentation to upgrade their offer by 1st August at the latest. If you have any queries about what documentation you need to provide, please contact your Admissions Officer.

Please ensure you read our Student visa guidance carefully to ensure that your visa application process goes smoothly. You should take particular care to ensure that you understand the financial requirements. City, University of London has a team of specialist international student advisers who can help with any questions you may have before and during your visa application process.

Please note that you will need to make a new Student visa application sponsored by the City, University of London before you will be able to complete your registration and start studying with us on campus in London. If you have undertaken any previous study in the UK under a Student/Tier 4 visa of which you have not previously informed us, this may affect your eligibility for a Student visa and you should contact us immediately with further information.

The UK government regularly releases updated Student visa guidance. If a change is made that will impact on your Certificate of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is issued by the University and is required to apply for a Student visa, or your visa application, you will be contacted by the University with further information about your next steps.

Every year dozens of successful applicants to our MSc Programme are awarded course scholarships in recognition of their previous outstanding academic achievements and strong course application.

The award amount can be up to 20% of the tuition fees and takes the form of a discount deducted from the second instalment of the tuition fees in January.

This award is open to all applicants on full-time courses on the MSc Programme and eligible candidates will be notified in their course offer letter. This will give further details of deadlines and how to apply. The majority of course scholarships are offered at the time the course offer is made, and while funds are still available.

MSc Programme Scholarships

Every year we are able to award a number of scholarships to offer-holders on our Specialist Master's degree programme generously provided by different benefactors.

Applications for scholarships for 2024 intake are now closed. If any further scholarships are confirmed for 2024 intake, they will be added here. Unless otherwise stated, in order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must have accepted their offer on their MSc degree and paid the deposit.

Decisions are normally made by the awarding body during the summer, and most results will be announced between June and August. We understand the importance of confirming the results of the scholarships as soon as possible. All scholarship applicants will be informed of the decisions by email as and when they are made. Please note that we are not able to provide updates on the status of individual applications.
