Introduction
The Graduate Certificate in Organization Design and Development is for professionals working in or consulting with, organizations in all sectors who wish to expand their knowledge, skills, strategies, and expertise in the area of organization development.
The aim of the certificate is to equip professionals with graduate-level applied, relevant, and theoretical expertise for conducting analysis, decision making and evaluation that is required in designing organizations for the future.
Upon completion of this certificate program, you may apply to credits towards our MBA, MA in Tourism Management, and MA in Interdisciplinary Studies programs.
Curriculum
Program Description
Over the duration of the program, students can expect to explore Organization Development principles and practices, examine theoretical and practical perspectives of organization design, culture and change interventions, and acquire, and utilize, approaches and frameworks that make the necessary connections to organizational strategy. The program will focus on the application of learning in areas such as:
- organization design, development, and strategy
- organization change processes
- systems and culture transformation
- capacity building, measurement, and evaluation
Who It's For
This program is for consultants, analysts, managers, and practitioners who want to design and deliver customized interventions to assist organizations in leading and implementing positive stakeholder-engaged organizational change. Those wishing to become effective, in-demand Organization Development Consultants, will be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and key skills necessary for conducting strategic analysis, decision making, and evaluation in complex organizations.
Delivery Model
The Graduate Certificate in Organization Design and Development program includes a five-day on-campus component, followed by two online courses, and concludes with a final three-day on-campus Capstone. This unique structure provides working professionals with an opportunity to benefit from the synergy of an on-campus experience and learn through the online medium while still meeting professional and personal responsibilities.
On-campus learning
Students can expect the residency periods to be quite rigorous. The daily schedule for residencies is usually from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Homework, readings, and team assignments are completed outside of these hours so it is recommended that you keep your evenings available for these activities.
Online learning
The online portion of our Graduate Certificate in Organization Design and Development program is delivered through a Moodle platform. There are deadlines for assignments, and students can expect a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning within each course. A number of different learning methods are used, including textbooks, articles, case studies, interactive learning and "chat" bulletin boards for corresponding with your team members, who may be on the other side of the country. Students will be assessed by a mix of individual and team-based assignments.
Each 9-week online course is taken consecutively and requires a level of effort of approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Transfer Credits
You may choose to complete this program as a specialization option and apply the credits earned towards our MBA in Executive Management, Master of Global Management (MGM) programs.
If you have already completed this program, you can transfer all credits towards Royal Roads MBA, MGM, MA in Tourism Management, and MA in Interdisciplinary Studies programs. The tuition will be adjusted accordingly.
